Welcome to Hingham
Eleanor Roosevelt called the Main St of Hingham "the most beautiful Main St in America".
Hingham is referred to as the gateway town to the south shore. Though it’s full of urban amenities, and an easy commute to Boston, Hingham is the quintessential suburban answer to the bustle of the metro area. With plenty of coastline and beautiful wooded neighborhoods, it feels quiet and secluded in all the best ways.
Homes in Hingham vary from luxury sprawling estates and renovated Colonial homes to mid-sized homes in cul de sacs and even luxury condo living on the coastline at the Hingham Shipyard. It is a community full of variety, providing its residents with the lifestyle and space they want while still keeping them close to the heart and excitement of Boston.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Hingham has an incredible upscale collection of shopping and dining.
Tosca and Square Cafe are the downtown area’s fine dining at its most sophisticated. With prime seafood, steaks, and cocktails, it’s sure to delight your taste buds no matter what you order. The downtown area is picturesque, with boutique shops, such as Assembly, and a historic cinema which make it a wonderful spot to stroll, shop and dine.
You will also find a similar mouth-watering fare in a historic setting at the Scarlet Oak Tavern, located just outside of the downtown area.
A couple of regional restaurants, Legal Seafoods, Bertucci’s, and Burtons, are located in the Derby Street Shops, the south shore’s premier lifestyle shopping center. And if you are looking for ingredients for cooking at home, stop into Whole Foods.
Hingham Shipyard, located on the waterfront, is the second lifestyle center. This refurbished shipyard boasts the Wahlberg family restaurants, including fine dining on the water at Alma Nove and the original Walhburgers. Movie theatres, the Hingham to Boston Ferry, a marina, boutiques, The Fruit Center (think local groceries and delicious prepared foods) and upscale condos round out this complex.
Things To Do
Hingham is full of beauty and culture. From national parks, the seashore, and marinas, to local annual and holiday events, there’s something for everyone.
Wompatuck State Park, which covers 3500 acres and is shared by bordering towns of Cohasset, Norwell, and Scituate. One of the most notable features of the Park is Mt. Blue Spring which is a popular source of fresh drinking water. Visitors can help themselves for free. The park is named for an Indian chief the local colonists knew as Josiah Wompatuck. In 1665, Chief Wompatuck deeded the park and the surrounding land to the English settlers. During WWII the park was used as an ammunition depot by the US military. There is a 260 site campground here as well as hiking and biking trails throughout the park.
The town has 2 movie theaters including the historic Loring Cinemas in the downtown area.
Being on the coast makes spring through fall on the water another place for boaters and beachgoers alike to enjoy the local amenities. Plenty of room for boats at the 4 marinas spread along the shore. And the local Hingham Bathing beach is the place to build your sandcastle and dig your toes in the sand.
