As the largest town on Cape Cod, Barnstable never fails to impress with its cornucopia of culture, arts, and abundant nature. The effervescent town comprises seven distinct villages, from the historic Barnstable village community whose idyllic homes come with views of the Sandy Neck Marsh, to the dynamic village of Hyannis which serves as the central commercial and business district for the entire cape.
Barnstable was first explored by Europeans in 1602, and its later settlement in 1638 makes it one of the first towns created in the famous Plymouth Colony. The town sits on a narrowed section in the middle of the cape, with views of Martha’s Vineyard to the south and gorgeous Sandy Neck area to the north. Revered even among the premier communities of Cape Cod, Barnstable has even been a recipient of the acclaimed All-American City Award.
Though several new-build estates and masterfully crafted modern farmhouses are available throughout Barnstable, the town is particularly well-known — like much of Cape Cod — for its out-of-this-world offerings of historic properties. Fantastic mansions and legacy estates can date back as far as the 1700s, with every era between then and modernity represented. Many of the most coveted homes lie in the village of New Seabury to the south and West Barnstable in the north, the latter of which is lauded for its plentitude of sweeping bay views.
